“Sour Jelly Beans” explores obsessive compulsions, and other 'private performances'--ritualistic, obsessive, or just simply private. In this instance, they manifest in the form of the number two. Melody considers camouflage–focusing on the contrast between natural and artificial/synthetic elements in trying to hide or blend into a modern environment. These two components intersect in this sculptural space of a shelter, reminiscent of a camping tent, which often utilize bright, bold colors. The obsessive compulsions become this private performance, interruptive and bold, yet somehow invisible.
